Electronic Media Production II (BC 203)

Well hello Kickers and welcome back!

The time has come for a Class to end! I really enjoyed my  Electronic Media Production class with Mr. Harwood! Without this class their would be no "Kickin it With Kiara" no "Kickers" and this blog would still just be an idea. This course has been helpful with helping me one day reach the dream of being a successful blogger and I truly feel like many more doors will be opened because of this class.

Twitter:

I'm still not a big fan of Twitter. I still only use it for a guilty pleasure when something juicy happens on social media or when shade gets thrown. Just recently I used it only for the sole purpose of this class. Now since I'm a blogger I might just put my feelings aside about twitter and actually tweet. I still love following Kim Kardashian, and Beyoncé. Feel free to follow me (click here.)

LinkedIn:

To be honest, I really hate this website, maybe when I get a little older and actually focus on finding a job after college, I'll take more time figuring this website out. LinkedIn is a great tool to help you find a job, but I don't feel very sure of my self right now to put my self out there to the world just yet.
(view my linkedin page here.)

Prezi:

This actually wasn't my first time using this website. I've used this website before for a church slideshow presentation, I definitely wouldn't mind using Prezi instead of PowerPoint for projects.

Green Screen:

I thought this activity was pretty neat, I loved to finally see and do the steps it takes to make the green screen effects work. Even though the picture didn't really justify what I really want to do in life. I'm glad I got the opportunity to do this project.

I had fun going around campus on the bull dog challenge. I also got to play around with a neat software that lets you create slideshows and apply stickers to each picture. even though I choose a simple look for my slideshow, I wouldn't mind using the website again.

Classmate Feature Story:

With this blog post, I actually gained a friend. I got the chance to interview Isaiah Hughes. I had fun getting to know some one who is really going places! I can't wait to see where life takes him next.

I want to thank Mr. Harwood again for opening my eyes about starting this blog. I really enjoyed his class. Thank you Mr. Harwood for giving me that tough love and motivation to keep on going no matter what!

Featured Guest: Mr. David Jenkins and Brittni Lundie from Boeing Aircraft Plant in North Charleston,SC

Hello Kickers! Meet Mr. David Jenkins and Mrs. Brittni Lundie!

Mrs. Lundie is a college recruiter for Boeing and Mr. Jenkins is an Alumni of SC and also works at Boeing as a manufacturing engineer.

(The class taking a picture with the presenters)

During the presentation the presenters talked about Interviewing Skills.

They told us to do Mock Interviews to get us ready for an interview so that we would be comfortable and ready.

They also talked to us about building a portfolio to display our work over the years with communications or anything that has something to do with what ever you are applying for..

One thing that the presenters talked about that stuck with me is that you have to use people that you are connected to, to get where you want to go. Some one that you are connected to, knows someone to get you closer to your goal.

They also talked about attire and how you have to dress to impress. You can't wear a cocktail dress to an interview and think your going to get the job.

I had a great time learning about good interviewing skills with Boeing! Feel free to comment if you know any more interview tips!

Until next time Kickers!

Hair Empire - Hair Ad

Hey Kickers! Welcome Back! Lets Talk about all things hair!

One of my favorite hair companies right now has to be, "Hair Empire!" The hair is gorgeous!! They have it all! So instead of  just read about it, here's an advertisement piece I did! Check it out for yourself!

Bulldog Picture Challenge Feat. Kizoa.com

Hey Kickers!

For one of my classes I was asked to do a photo challenge to see how many bulldogs can I find on our universities campus.

After taking all these pictures of bulldogs, I used a website called Kizoa to make a slideshow of all the pictures!

The one thing I like about the website is that you can decorate each picture with different stickers and special effects.

I not really a big fan of stickers and stuff,  so I probably wont be using this website ever again.

I'm glad I tried it though!

Guest Blogger: Min. William Ellis "Bible Study Talk"

Challenge Challenge Challenge
12/8/16

These last few weeks social media has been taken over by the latest craze...challenges. Hashtag challenge this. Hashtag challenge that. What makes it more concerning is that believers are participating in these challenges. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that there is something wrong with that. If we are called to be a light in darkness (Matthew 5:14), why do we try so hard to blend in? The two top challenges are the #unameitchallenge and #mannequinchallenge.
Like I mentioned earlier I don't see anything wrong with believers doing the challenges, but what if these challenges could go past social media? Let's start with the mannequin challenge. This challenge is a recording of a person or a group of people not moving...like mannequins in our favorite department stores. Then we have the you name it challenge. Part of Pastor Shirley Caesar's “Hold My Mule”(yep go ahead and listen to it) song is used while many are dancing or lip syncing to it.
So we have the likes, shares, and everything else that these challenges bring. Some do it for popularity, others do it because they are bored, and few do it just to say they did it. Imagine if believers really did the mannequin challenge in life. Picture it. God and nonbelievers are looking at us. Seeing if we are going to move when we get bad news. How about when our flesh want to go off on someone?Believe it or not, but there are people watching and waiting to see if we are standing like a tree planted by the water (Jeremiah 17:8). That's the real mannequin challenge. Then we have the “u name it challenge”. How many times do we actually declare great things out of our mouth? We will speak negativity and then a week later wonder why we are going through. I can remember after this year's election how I saw and heard so many believers saying the most crazy things. Have we forgotten that we will have whatever we say (Mark 11:23)? When you wake up in the morning what is your confession? Try naming the things God has for you like peace, joy, a future, grace, hope, favor.....YOU NAME IT!
Now that I have your mind thinking, it is my prayer that as believers (especially my generation) we use these challenges as witnessing tools. Better yet let's challenge each other to loving more, praying more, studying God's word, and being a  living witness in the earth. Let's challenge ourselves to live a life on purpose. Remember you are light. Don't let anyone dim you down. You are suppose to be bright and shine! When WE shine...we lead others to the true light, Jesus Christ. #turndownforwhatchallenge

Hughes (Who's) Heading in the Right Direction

"Anything's Possible, you gotta dream like you see obstacles." - J.Cole

Isaiah Hughes is a upcoming mogul... ( remember his name!) He's a sweet guy with a great personality! Ladies, he's also a nice looking guy too... (if I might add!) Hailing from The Peach State of Georgia, by way of the states capital of Atlanta.

Isaiah currently attends the illustrious SC State University where he is a Senior Broadcasting major. Isaiah is also football player. To play football has always been a dream, but reality hit after not earning a scholarship to play, explained Hughes." Isaiah decided to attend SC State to get away from home.   "After graduation I plan to work within a communication office to start my career, Isaiah said."

Mr. Hughes is all about family. "My family inspires me to do well simply because they sacrificed their time to deal with me, declared Hughes." His older brother, Marc, helps him train to be a better athlete. "I come from a family that has made me work hard for everything, I am a hardworking man because of it, professed Isaiah."
(Pictured with his older brother)

(Isaiah and some of his friends enjoying the schools homecoming activites)

Underneath his extracurricular activities and focusing on his education, Isaiah loves to have fun. His favorite musical artist are; J.Cole, Big Krit, and Logic.

Kickers, I can't wait to see what else God has in store for Isaiah Hughes! Follow him on twitter (here.) Until next time, thanks for Kickin' it with me!

Portable Light Projecting Project

Hey Kickers! Coming back to you all with another project! This time I had the pleasure to do a project with one of my favorite gals on SC State campus, Ms. Connie Maybin! ( remember that name, she's going places!)

*disclaimer* Don't judge me, it was an off day!

This project required us to use a reflector: (See picture below)
Notice How the Sun light is directly behind her, but the reflector "reflects" the sunlight on to her face.

In this picture I used the reflector:
As you can tell, that glow on her face is popping! Even though this isn't a great picture, but you will understand how this little trick called a reflector is a beauty secret! In this picture you can tell she has blue locks in her hair. Also, you can see the features on her face clear as day.

Here's the picture without the portable lighting reflector:

In this picture you can't really see her face. Its all one big huge glare. This picture doesn't show how beautiful Connie is. (This Gal is gorgeous inside and out!)

So as you can clearly tell, a reflector makes the difference!

So, Kiara... Where You Trying To Go With Your Life??? (Green Screen Project)

In class, I was given the chance to play with the green screen. I wanted to do something a little different than my other class mates. Instead of choosing a vacation spot like  Paris (Malik, we good bro?) , or sitting with Money ( Love you Mariah!)

Well I chose to pose with one of my favorite Make-Up companies mini store..... M.A.C cosmetics.... I mean like for real, who doesn't like make-up? To be real though, I can see myself being a Freelance MUA on the side, but that's not something I want to do for an actual 9 to 5 job...

Here's the picture with the green screen that I used:

Here's the back ground image I used:

Lastly: Here is the final result with My picture with the MAC counter behind it:

Who really knows what I'm going to do for the rest of my life! Just stay Kickin' It With me to find out!

Get to Pinning, with Pinterest!

Hello Kickers! Welcome back to my blog! Let's jump right on in to talk about one of my all time favorite websites!

Pinterest was launched in March of 2010 with more than 70 million users (2013) as reported by Wikipedia. With this website, you can upload anything you're interested in, called "pins" onto a collection of other pins called "boards."

Below is a screenshot of my Pinterest...

As you probably already noticed, I have 8.9k pins... (This is my favorite website to use!) This pictures underneath my Pinterest statistics are the stuff I recently pinned. I love fashion, make-up, hair, and a good nail fix! I love this app so much, when I'm not around my peers, I dance while pinning. almost like this picture below.

Here's a screenshot of one of my boards:

With this screenshot, you can see that the number of pins changed from 8.9k to 159, that's because the only pins that are save to this board is shoes. This board is one of the many others boards I have. If you look at the screenshot above, some of my pins are able to buy from right off of pinterest. Simply click the pin and then link the shoe once you get to the separate webpage. From there it will automatically send you to the web store to buy the shoes.

Well kickers, I hope you fall in love with Pinterest as much as I have! Until next time!

Is It a Bird, No! It's Twitter!

Welcome back to my blog, "Kickin' It With Kiara!' Thanks for coming back and kicking it with your girl! I know probably by now... you have heard about the social media website called Twitter.  It's one of those website that I use for a guilty pleasure. (Finding the latest juicy gossip, looking at subtweets of people throwing shade...) Oh, yes... the tea is real on twitter!

Twitter is a social network that lets users create status updates called "tweets" that can be up to 140 characters. The fun thing about this app is that if your a registered user, you and read and repost tweets. Those who are not a member of the twitter community, can only read the tweets. So, you're still apart of the fun!

Founded March 21, 2006, twitter has been on the rise having at least 310 active users daily as reported by Wikipedia. It wasn't until July 15, 2006 that the website launched in to the world wide web.

Some of the notable people I follow include, Kim Kardashian-West,Beyonce and many other famous celebs!

So, are you up for a little tweeting?

The Five Questions feat. Iris Gadsden and Christian Manning

Welcome back to my blog, "Kickin' it with Kiara!" Two weeks ago I was given the task to direct a segment called, " Five Questions" featuring my gorgeous, multi-talented colleague, Iris Gadsden and the handsome Christian Manning. In this segment, Iris asked Christian a couple of questions pertaining to everyday life at SC State University. For my first time recording a video, I actually feel like I did a pretty good job. One problem I realized after I finalized the video was simply the fact that my lighting was too bright. Watch below to see my production, 'Five Questions!"

I really hope you like this mini production! Please don't forget to send feedback and suggestions on how to improve this blog! Until next time! Thanks for Kickin' it With Me!

"I'm Coming Home"
Emmanuel K. Sellers
Sept. 21, 2016
Proverbs 18:21 NET

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love its use will eat its fruit.
In light of all that has recently transpired in the past few days & weeks, I feel compelled to share a thought with you all. If you've been watching the news lately you've seen the recent wave of terror that has swept across the national media outlets. It's not anything too unfamiliar, but every time it happens, there is a new name to be added to the list. More and more of our own slaughtered for unjust reasons, and we sit helplessly and watch as it happens. We say their names: Terence Crutcher, Tyre King, Philando Castile, Alton Sterling, Sandra Bland, Mike Brown, Jordan Davis, Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin. Just to name a few. We march, cry for change, cry for indictments against the guilty party, have our leader give speeches from the press room at the White House. And then it happens again, every single time, over and over again. The cycle continues. Sons, daughters, Mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends taken away from us because we look threatening and pose a subliminal danger to the society in which we live.
Why do I have to look at my brothers and wonder are they gonna come home safely from school. Why do I have to look at my mother and wonder if she's gonna come safe from work. Why do I look at myself and wonder am going to be able to go home safely after work. Why do I have to look at my Uncle Roy, an AME pastor, and wonder is someone going to come into his bible study and lay waste to the whole room. Why do I look at my aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, and co workers and wonder is their face going to be the next one I see come across CNN. I look at my home town folks in Suffolk, VA and wonder am I gonna hear voices missing from the warmth that I've been accustomed to my whole life when I go visit. Why do I have to live my with the worry that someone I know and love might the victim of the hands of police brutality because the officers have no control over their own judgement and can't use the common sense God gave a squirrel.
We live in this America where we are guaranteed the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. But the most important thing in that is LIFE! WHY DO I NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO MY OWN LIFE?! WHY?! We live in this America where I am supposed to be able to play peacefully in the park. We live in this America where I am supposed to be able to walk into Greater St. Luke AME Church, or my home church Macedonia AME in Suffolk, and worship freely. We live in this America where I am supposed to be able to buy skittles and Arizona tea without being viewed as a threat. We live in this America where I am supposed to be able to call for help for my broken down car, and either drive off, or get a tow to take me to a mechanics shop. We live in this America where I AM GUARANTEED THE RIGHT TO LIFE LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. But I guess I didn't know that there were exceptions. I guess I made the mistake thinking that I can go worship. Maybe it's my mistake thinking I can play outside in the park. Maybe it's my mistake for putting my trust in people who are supposed to protect and serve the citizens of their community. Maybe it's my mistake for putting my trust in a person in a uniform who supposed to relay some assistance to my broken down car. Maybe it's my mistake for putting my trust and faith in people and not God! I didn't know that I was not afforded the same rights as those around me.
But this I do know. I know that it says in our scripture that "Death & LIFE are in the power of the tongue". And what that means is no matter the situation, if I speak with full conviction and faith in Jesus, that it shall be done in the perfect or ordered will of God. So right now I'm going to use my tongue and speak life not only over me but over you as well. First let me say to my mother Vervette, my brothers Ethan & Exavier, that I'm coming home. You will not see me on the news as a new name. I will come home. When ever I leave the house I will come home. No matter if I'm gone for 9 hours at work or 2 weeks on Vacation in Virginia, I WILL COME HOME!!!! I'm coming home. You all are coming home. You will not be a victim. God has his hands on you and you will come back home. I decree it in the name of Jesus you will come back home. To your families, to your loved ones, to your friends, to your life! You Will Come Back Home. The devil mighty busy! He got people out here doing his work. But as long as I am about the business of Father in Heaven I will come back home. Satan ain't gon get me. I WILL COME BACK HOME. Speak it over your life right now that you will come home. You will not be laid out in the street in blood, but laid down in your bed next your husband, your wife, your kids, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, friends: YOU WILL COME HOME!
God Bless You!

My Identity In Christ - Bible Study Talk

1Peter 2:1-9

1Therefore, get rid of all ill will and all deceit, pretense, envy, and slander. 2Instead, like a newborn baby, desire the pure milk of the word. Nourished by it, you will grow into salvation,3 since you have tasted that the Lord is good.
4Now you are coming to him as to a living stone. Even though this stone was rejected by humans, from God’s perspective it is chosen, valuable. 5You yourselves are being built like living stones into a spiritual temple. You are being made into a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6Thus it is written in scripture, Look! I am laying a cornerstone in Zion, chosen, valuable. The person who believes in him will never be shamed. 7So God honors you who believe. For those who refuse to believe, though, the stone the builders tossed aside has become the capstone. 8This is a stone that makes people stumble and a rock that makes them fall. Because they refuse to believe in the word, they stumble. Indeed, this is the end to which they were appointed. 9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people who are God’s own possession. You have become this people so that you may speak of the wonderful acts of the one who called you out of darkness into his amazing light.

Story Time....

About A few year ago a man with no identification, was found behind a McDonald’s with no clothes on and found unconscious. He regained consciousness, and was taken to the Emergency Room where the doctors realized that this man had total amnesia. For the past 8 years no one knew who he was… Even Dr. Phil did a whole special broadcast for this unknown man trying to see if someone would claim him, and no one did…. Til this day no one knows who this man is…

For a second, I want you to close your eyes, and imagine that you are this man... no past, no present, no friends… your entire life has been completely erased from your memory. This is what the devil wants… there is a Spiritual warfare going on for your identity… the devil wants you to think that you are nothing, that God has no plans for you… Satan can only pervert, distort, or destroy.. What he likes to do, is he likes to pick on what God has created, God’s kids… The devil, is a bully…The devil know that if he can keep you from doing what God is calling you to do, and who God made you to be and distort your true Identity...How does the devil do this? He uses a lot of different tools…..

The Opinion of others
You’re parents say things about you, your peers have said things about you, maybe your girlfriend or your boyfriend … your spouse may have said some things about you… maybe your enemies/ friends have said things about you…. Some maybe true some maybe false… but they all have tried to mold you into THERE image… people all your life are going to try to put you in a box, a category...you should be allergic to boxes that people try to put you in… BREAK OUT OF THEM! Be who God has Called you to be!

Media

The Devil uses the media, he uses it to make you try to be someone you’re not. You should look like Beyonce, you should have a body like Nicki Minaj… You’re never going to have their talent… Why don’t you by what they buy… the crop tops that stop up to our boobs….. or guys I need to get those new Jordans, like the Air Jordan 4 Retro Ls “Columbia” that comes out on the 10th of January, because Meek Mill had those on his Instagram when he got out of prison... the Devil uses these things to trick your mind… the Devil puts thoughts in your mind by watching MTV, BET, YouTube….. I ask you this question today, WHAT IS YOUR IDENTITY?
Webster defines the word “identity” as the qualities, beliefs, etc. that make a particular person different from others.
I want to ask you Again, what is your identity?
Well your identity is in Christ…..

Don’t make yourself feel bad about your mistakes… God can still use you… don’t let your mistakes define who you are…
Noah was a drunk
Jacob lied
Moses was a murderer
Rahab was a prostitute
David had an affair
They asked God for forgiveness, and God still used them because God used them for a purpose… Because there Identity was in Christ…

Here’s your true identity in Christ
You are a masterpiece! (Ephesians 2:10)
You are important (1 Peter 2:9)
You are forgiven! ( Psalms 103:12)
You are a new creation! ( 1 Corinthians 5:17)
You are protected! (Psalms 121:3)
You Are Family! (Ephesians 2:19)
You are Strong! (Psalm 68:35)
You are Unique! (Psalm 139:14)
You are victorious! ( 1 John 5:3-5)

Your Identity is not in your sin, your Identity is in your savior!

Today, I ask you to declare who you are in Christ… You don’t need anyone to validate who you are…. God is waiting for you.. with open arms… Are you ready to make God the head of your life… He’s waiting for you…
The question was asked, What is your identity…. Your identity is in Christ!

Chapter 1 Discussion Questions 1-5

1. What qualities separate the photographer from the photojournalist?
According to Larry Hattenberg, a KAKE-TV video journalist, anyone with a camera can be a photographer. No one is a photojournalist until they learn how to tell the visual story. Whether you work alone, in a crew, or even with just one other person, Hattenberg's definition of the photojournalist extends to everyone involved.

2. In what sense are the camera and microphone "writing and reporting instruments"?
The camera and microphone are considered "writing and reporting instruments" in the sense that in media that contains moving images and sound, we are always writing with one instrument or another. Camera, microphone, sound, silence, actions, behaviors, video editing, and the spoken word. In the end, all those instruments come down to this: In video media you can only communicate in two ways; one is with images, the other is with sound. So the camera and microphone are instruments because the camera captures the pictures and the microphone captures the sound.

3. Why can the edit console fairly be called a "rewrite" machine?
Editing is the field search for building blocks of visual communication, the equivalent of a mind's eye storyboard that begins to take shape even before you arrive on location. When you edit, you are beginning the deliberate process to your visual and also changing things and making it better.

4. How does the nature of a television news report differ from a newspaper story?
News reports commonly emphasize just the facts. They may show people in interviews, walking here and there, and sometimes doing interesting things. In the end and with exceptions, however, they highlight facts and information more than they use video and field audio to help communicate a sense of experience or to introduce interesting people to viewers. Newspaper stories reveal someone's goals and actions as they unfold sequentially, along a timeline. They use moving images an sound to mimic how viewers experience the world in their personal lives. Images and sounds are different tools than words on paper or even words spoken aloud. Typically, print informs or reports first to the intellect. Visual stories commonly report first to the heart.
5. What is the role of the written word in television news?
The role of written words in television news is to connect the pictures and sounds just in case you are unable to understand. The words are like a guide so you can read along, because when the anchor is reporting the story, they often read faster.
